In laparoscopy, thin tube with a light and camera, is inserted through a small cut below the belly to check the pelvic organs, fallopian tubes and outside of the ovaries.
When is it performed?
- A diagnostic laparoscopy is performed to find problems like adhesions, cysts, infections and fibroids.
- It is also done to treat conditions like pelvic inflammation, endometriosis or ectopic pregnancy.
- It is usually performed to determine the causes of infertility and blockage in fallopian tubes after the infertility test which do not show any causes of infertility
- The surgery takes about 30- 90 minutes but the procedure may take longer if endometriosis is found
