Infertility is caused due to various reasons, but it leads to one thing i.e frustration & no pregnancy. To understand an individuals condition, consulting fertility doctor is required.
For some women the reason may be ovulation i.e production of the egg is not occurring on regular basis. The reason for such situation may be many such as age related depletion of eggs or due to PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). For few ovulation may be occurring, but the ovulated egg isn’t getting fertilized by the sperm. A very common cause of infertility is due to insufficient numbers of normal sperms which are required to achieve a natural pregnancy.
At the initial visit, the Doctor will examine you or your partner’s health history to find out the root cause of infertility.
The next procedure is broken down in evaluating
- The Ovaries
- The Fallopian Tubes
- The Low Sperm Count
1.Checking The Ovaries
The area of the brain called pituitary controls the ovarian function. Several hormones are produced by the pituitary, but the most critical are follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). FSH stimulates the ovary to develop a follicle that contains an egg. In menstrual cycle, if FSH is elevated too early it indicates that ovary is having a hard time responding to this signal. To test the function of the ovary one has to determine the FSH hormone on day 3 of the menstrual cycle along with assessing the amount of estrogen (produced by the ovary) in the blood. The functioning of the ovary is indicated by these hormones. Something we refer to as the “ovarian reserve” which is the quality of the pool of eggs within the ovary.
2. Checking The Fallopian Tubes
Hysterosalpingogram is an another important test. This test is simply an X-ray of the uterine cavity (where implantation of an embryo occurs) & the Fallopian tubes to determine if the tubes are open. After examining if found the tubes are blocked then IVF is the most successful option in achieving pregnancy.
3. Checking the Semen
To determine if the male partners component is resulting in infertility, Semen Analysis is another important test for initial evaluation. With the vast development of the medical technology in the last 2 decades, the sperm with the most severe abnormalities can still achieve pregnancy. Ones the result of the semen test is available the Infertility doctor can recommend the appropriate treatment for you.
