5 Factors To Consider Before Going For IVF (Test Tube Baby Treatment)

Yash IVF Best Infertility clinic in Pune
There are specific indications for each of the different types of infertility treatment, be it TIC, IUI or In vitro fertilization (IVF or Test tube baby treatment). In women who have already undergone sterilization by tubal ligation (Family planning surgery) and now wish to bear a child for personal reasons, the options are either a re-canulation of the tubes or IVF. In this case, the cost and success rate are both lower for re-canulation as compared to In-vitro fertilization treatment.

Where IVF and any other treatment is an option, In vitro fertilization remains the best choice for beating infertility.

However, there are a few considerations which you need to address before starting the journey of IVF as this procedure involves a lot of factors and every step calls for precision.
Primarily – the monetary & emotional preparedness for the probable success rates for your specific infertility cause and your age.
Secondly – rational expectations from the procedure.
The success of IVF depends on many factors like age, medical or clinical records of the couple, previous history or concerns of pregnancy, lifestyle etc.
We, at Yash IVF, want the patients and potential couples who are thinking & reading this blog to make conscious decisions to adhere to the recommended process of IVF. We will try to include all possible information, so the journey of IVF becomes more practical and informative. As the IVF procedure is time-consuming, requires all logistical planning in place. This may affect your daily routine and professional life, especially for women, in the initial month.
As the journey of each IVF couple is different, we tried to put these concerns which will help the couple to commit to the journey of IVF.
 1. Age of the couple:
It is known, by now that women are born with all the eggs that they will ever have & egg quality declines as they age. The women in their 20s have a normal complement of eggs but by their 40s no eggs are remaining or not enough in number or quality to facilitate conception. By quality depletion, we mean that as age advances, the ability of the eggs to get fertilized by the sperm also decreases. This happens irrespective of the lifestyle choices they make.

According to The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG), women’s chances of getting pregnant without interventions drop considerably around 35 yr.

IVF does increase the odds of conception in a certain age group. Women in their 40s can opt for healthy eggs from an unrelated younger woman (donor eggs), as there are increased chances of miscarriages or pregnancy-related complications with their eggs if at they are present in sufficient numbers. Age is not such an important factor in the case of males.  However, even in males, sperm quality does decrease with age, but this happens much later. In any case, the Govt of India has fixed the age limit for fatherhood by infertility procedures to 55. For women, it is 50 years even if they go with donor eggs or a surrogate.

2. Current health concerns that could affect pregnancy:
It is known that some health conditions can impact the IVF Process. Diabetes, Hormonal imbalances, Thyroid issues, Anaemia, Blood pressure, infections, and obesity are considered important factors that can impact IVF treatments.
Many of these factors can be treated well in advance or can be controlled and kept in control during the infertility treatment process
Couples can always maintain the proper check over these factors. There are many tests & treatments available to control such health concerns.

Let’s look at obesity as a health concern. Obesity is a potential link that can reduce the chances of conception and healthy full-term pregnancies. Menstrual irregularities affect the egg quality in females and sperm quality in obese men.

Recent research has underlined the fact that obese women undergoing IVF treatment require higher dosages of gonadotropins and poorly respond to ovary stimulation (it is a procedure to manufacture more eggs), lesser number of oocytes are harvested. Obesity is linked with lower fertilization rate, increased chances of miscarriage & Preterm deliveries.

It is always advisable for the couple to get tested for such factors well in advance or before the planned journey of IVF and to commit themselves to neutralise them or bringing them under control for the success of the treatment they will be undergoing.

3. Physical & Emotional well-being of couple seeking IVF.
The IVF journey adds a lot of stress – financial issues, worry some social issues. Also, the chance of failure or uncertainties adds up to emotional stress.
Both partners need to be invested in the process of IVF. Unbiased and honest communication can reduce anxiety. As the stress of infertility affects your social & emotional interactions, it is advisable to consider the proper plan to deal with such stress well in advance. Worrying about Embryo transfers, remaining embryos, multiple pregnancies, number of IVF cycles can be addressed with our counsellors. If you know the problems you are likely to face and are aware that your chosen centre can address these problems or any others that may arise, you are likely to be more confident and less stressed out. We maintain a high level of transparency about the treatment process and this helps our patients to be relatively stress-free and positive minded
Remember, you are not the only one travelling the IVF path. Infertility is an issue that can be addressed effectively.

4. Time for the IVE Process.
IVF takes a significant amount of time & commitment for procedures from both the partners & typically 5-7 weeks to complete. A successful pregnancy often doesn’t happen with the first cycle, so more time, money, and stress are involved.

Just being in a hurry doesn’t work. A casual approach is dangerous. Planning for the preparation for IVF goes a long way in achieving parenthood.

5. Cost consideration.

We often see Infertility has 2 concerns Money & time. Most couples come with problems of Money along with the heavy burden of stress.

The cost of IVF will depend entirely upon the procedure that will be implemented in your case. It may be as low as 1 lac for a young couple with normal ovarian function and sperm or as high as 2.5 lac for an older couple with low ovarian function or other complications.

At YASH IVF our focus is on reducing the cost of a live birth rather than focusing primarily on the cost of the IVF cycle. Various processes are required to be followed in an IVF cycle to increase the success rate of the cycle. These depend upon the specific cause of your infertility. Patients should look to perform a high-quality IVF cycle that increases their chances of success. The lesser the number of cycles to achieve a live birth, the lesser will be the time consumed and the lower will be the cost.
Choosing the right facility is very important, you can refer to our blog for the same.
